                                                                               Marty Josey

Hello everyone, my name is Marty Josey. I started training in martial arts over 30 years ago. Over the years I have studied various arts including Shorin Ryu Karate, TKD, Kenpo Karate (Black belt), Progressive Fighting System/Contemporary Jeet Kune Do (PFS) (Apprentice instructor), Fear Adrenal Stress Response (FAST Defense-Certified instructor), submission grappling, and Gracie Jiu Jitsu.

I was introduced to GJJ in 1993 by watching the early UFCs...My first exposure to training GJJ was through the original Gracie VHS tapes and attending Rickson Gracie seminars. Unfortunately, due to a lack of GJJ academies in my area, as well as difficulty finding someone to train with, I focused on other arts for the next several years, always knowing I would return to it some day.

In 2008, I reconnected with GJJ and have focused on it ever since. I received my blue and purple belts through the Gracie Academy, and attended their instructor certification program (ICP) in 2011.  I am currently a brown  under the Pedro Sauer association, and recently won Gold at the 2019 Masters World Championships in Las Vegas.

My sincere hope is that the show will bring the Jiu Jitsu community closer together, and allow everyone to get to know those in the GJJ world better. I

I also wrote a book about Jiu Jitsu called See You on the Mat (click here for more info)

My background includes being a former Stress Management Counselor and Life Coach (Duke Medical System) and I enjoy helping people grow and develop in any way I can (hence the "Make a difference/Make an Impact" segments on the show}. I'm also a Certified Health Coach, Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Neuro-Linguistic Programing (NLP) practitioner, and Certified Stress Management Consultant. I'm a former  Neuromuscular and Sports Massage Therapist, and owned an integrated wellness clinic for many years, which offered Massage and Neuromuscular therapies, Stress Management services, and fitness training.  I'm also a US Army Veteran.

I am always open to suggestions for the show so please let me know what you like, dislike, want to see more of, etc.

Because my "day job" has me traveling a great deal, I am fortunate enough to be able to train in a variety of places...hopefully our paths will cross at some point on our journeys....
